How much does a wedding Photographer cost in Delaware

If you are planning a wedding in Wilmington, Newark, Dover, or anywhere within a couple of hours of the Delaware line, photography is likely one of the first line items you want a real number for. Most photographer websites barely even show a "starting at" price and leave the rest to a consultation, which makes comparing options harder than it should be. This guide breaks down what Delaware and Southeast Pennsylvania couples are paying for wedding photography in 2027, what changes the price, and what to ask before you book.

The Short Answer - Wedding Photo

Most Delaware couples pay between $2,000 and $4,000 for full-day wedding photography. One 2027 cost breakdown puts the state average at $3,500, which covers full-day coverage, editing, and a digital gallery. For comparison, the national median photography spend in The Knot's 2026 Real Weddings Study is $2,900.

Delaware Wedding Photographer Pricing by Experience

Starting prices in Delaware fall into three tiers.

Newer photographers start around $1,500 to $2,000. These packages usually include four to six hours of coverage and one photographer. Photographers with several full seasons behind them tend to start between $2,500 and $3,500, often with eight hours of coverage and a full online gallery. Established studios with associate photographers and a larger brand presence start at $4,000 and up, with some luxury listings above the 4K ceiling at around $4,400.

A lower price is not a warning sign by itself. Plenty of newer photographers do excellent work. The difference usually shows up in how they handle fast-moving moments, tricky lighting, and a timeline that slips by forty minutes. Ask to see a recent full wedding gallery, not only a portfolio of favorites. A lot of times photographers will be able to send you a link to a gallery from a wedding they did that is similar to your venue!

Southeast Pennsylvania Wedding Photographer Prices

Many Delaware couples marry in Chester County, Delaware County, or Lancaster County, so it helps to know how pricing shifts across the line. Studios in the Philadelphia area publish average ranges from $2,500 to $6,500, and most couples there spend between $3,500 and $5,000 for experienced coverage. Marketplace listings for Philadelphia and its suburbs show starting prices from about $2,700 to $3,700.

Many Philadelphia studios build packages around associate photographers. An eight-hour package with two associates runs around $4,000, and larger tiers climb to $4,800 and $5,800 once albums and extra coverage are included. A barn venue in Chester or Lancaster County usually prices closer to the Philadelphia numbers than the Delaware ones, partly because of travel and partly because popular weekends fill early.

What Hours of Coverage Cost

Hours are the biggest lever on your quote, so it helps to know what each block covers.

A four-hour package usually covers the ceremony, family formals, and a short portrait session. It fits an elopement, a courthouse wedding, or a small gathering, and prices run roughly $1,800 for associate coverage. A six-hour package typically adds some getting-ready time or part of the reception, and runs about $2,300 to $3,000. An eight-hour package covers most weddings from getting ready through the first dance and toasts, and Delaware prices for it run $2,800 to $4,000. A ten-hour package adds the full reception and send-off for larger weddings and costs $3,500 to $5,000 or more.

Additional hours usually run $200 to $500 each. Usually I tell couples that they should figure out when their reception ends or send off begins and then count backwards the time they want or are quoted by the photographer to find the start time for getting ready photos. Don’t forget that couples who under-buy hours often end up paying hourly rates on the day.

Engagement Sessions, Second Photographers, and Albums

The add-ons change the final number as much as the base package.

Engagement sessions range from about $200 to $600 across the region. A session gives you a trial run with your photographer, a set of photos for your save-the-dates, and practice being in front of the camera. A second photographer typically adds $400 to $900 and is worth it for weddings with complicated timelines or where the couple and the family are in different spaces getting ready. If you don’t have a first look please get a second shooter! Same for if you want to save time in the morning by having guys and girls photos happening at the same time. Printed albums vary the most, from a few hundred dollars for a simple book to more than $1,000 for a custom heirloom album. A lot of photographers you can just ask what they would charge for it as an add on, it is pretty abnormal these days to have it as a regular add on.

What Else Moves the Price

Your date matters. Saturdays in May, June, September, and October book first and cost the most, while Fridays, Sundays, and winter weekends often come with lower quotes. Holidays are always in the mix with wedding vendors as prime time so you may pay more on a holiday. Travel can add a fee when your venue is more than an hour from the photographer's home base. Editing style and delivery matter too. Ask how many images you will receive, how long the gallery takes to arrive, and whether the photographer edits the work personally.

Finally, ask who will actually shoot your wedding. Some larger studios sell you on a lead photographer and send an associate. If you are paying for a specific person's eye, get that in an email or in writing.

What to Ask Before You Book

A few questions separate a good fit from an expensive surprise. How many hours are included, and what does an extra hour cost? How many photographers will be there? Do you get every edited image, or a curated set? How long until the gallery is delivered? What is the backup plan if the photographer is sick or equipment fails? Does the photographer carry insurance, and have they shot at your venue before?

That last question has a real payoff. A photographer who has worked in your venue already knows where the light lands at 5 p.m., where the quiet corners are for portraits, and how long the walk from the ceremony to the garden takes. This is a great benefit but don’t hang your hat up if your favored photographer hasn’t been to your venue before.

DoMore Digital Wedding Photography Pricing

DoMore Digital is a Wilmington-based wedding photography and videography team run by me, RJ Garrish. I went full-time in December 2019 after working at Apple, and have photographed weddings across Delaware, Maryland, Southeast Pennsylvania, Lancaster County, and New Jersey.

Photography service is well under the $3,500 Delaware average, and the engagement session at $200 sits at the bottom of the regional range. Every gallery is edited in Adobe Lightroom by me, so the style you see in the portfolio is the style you receive.
